Early Childhood Philosophy
At Ardross Primary School, our Early Childhood approach is grounded in the belief that every child is capable, curious and full of potential. We provide a nurturing, inclusive and engaging environment where children feel safe, valued and confident to explore, learn and grow.
Our teaching is guided by a balance of play-based learning and explicit instruction, ensuring strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while fostering creativity, independence and a love of learning. Through carefully planned experiences, we support children to develop essential skills in communication, problem-solving and collaboration.
We recognise that relationships are at the heart of effective learning. Our educators build strong, respectful connections with each child, understanding their individual strengths, interests and needs. This enables us to provide differentiated learning opportunities and early intervention where required, ensuring every child is supported to succeed.
Our curriculum is aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework, with a strong focus on:
- Oral language development and early literacy
- Numeracy through hands-on, meaningful experiences
- Social and emotional development
- Inquiry, play and exploration
We place a strong emphasis on student wellbeing and belonging, supporting children to develop resilience, confidence and positive relationships. Through consistent routines, clear expectations and supportive environments, children are encouraged to take risks in their learning and build independence.
Sustainability is embedded in our Early Childhood programs. Through our Kitchen Garden, outdoor learning spaces and environmental initiatives, children develop an appreciation for the natural world and their role in caring for it. These experiences promote curiosity, responsibility and connection to Country.
We value strong partnerships with families and recognise them as children’s first teachers. Through open communication and collaboration, we work together to support each child’s learning journey.
