At Ardross Primary School, every child is encouraged to see themselves as creative and capable of expressing their ideas through art. The Visual Arts program provides opportunities for students to explore their thinking, build confidence, and discover what they are capable of creating.
In the art classroom, students are supported to take creative risks, try new ideas, and understand that mistakes are a valuable part of the learning process. Working through challenges and feeling proud of their achievements is an important part of each student’s creative journey. Students are encouraged to think differently, explore possibilities, and express their ideas in their own unique ways.
Students learn Visual Arts from Pre-Primary to Year 6 through a program guided by the Western Australian Curriculum. The program provides a sequential pathway where students develop creative skills, knowledge, and understanding while exploring the elements of art, including line, shape, colour, texture, space, form, and value. Through practical experiences with a range of materials and techniques, students learn to create, respond to, and talk about art with increasing confidence.
Research shows that arts education supports the development of critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. These capabilities help students approach learning across many areas of the curriculum with confidence and curiosity.
